It’s National Gin Day; what better excuse to savour a glass of this popular spirit? While a classic G&T is always a firm favourite, why not branch out with some new and exciting cocktail recipes to mark this special day? Whether you’re spending your Saturday afternoon out in the garden relaxing or enjoying some quality time with friends, we’ve got some ‘ginspirational’ cocktail recipes that are perfect for all occasions: 

The Bramble 

This fruity cocktail is sure to be a hit among those who love a little sweetness and is reminiscent of days spent blackberry picking on sunny afternoons. To make the Bramble, you’ll need: 
 
• 40ml of a gin of your choice 
• 10ml of sugar syrup 
• 15ml of crème de mur (blackberry liqueur) 
• 15ml of lemon juice 
• Blackberries (optional) 
 
Take a large tumbler and pop in a couple of ice cubes. Then, pour each of the liquid components (gin, sugar syrup, crème de mur and lemon juice) into the glass and stir briskly. Finally, garnish this sugary concoction with some juicy blackberries. 

The Gimlet 

The ultimate summer beverage, the Gimlet combines zesty flavours with sugary goodness and makes for a wonderfully refreshing drink that’s enjoyable during the day or of an evening. The ingredients you’ll need to create this refreshing cocktail are: 
 
• 50ml of a gin of your choice 
• 50ml of lime cordial/syrup 
• The juice and zest of two limes 
• A slice of lime (optional) 
• Edible flowers (optional) 
 
The Gimlet is best enjoyed cold, so before you embark on making it, be sure to pop a coupe glass into the freezer or fridge to chill. Then, pour the lime cordial/syrup into a jug and add your gin, along with some ice cubes. Stir the mixture thoroughly and strain it into your chilled glass, adding the final touch of a slice of lime or an edible flower to garnish. 

Gin Fizz 

If you’re entertaining, the Gin Fizz is sure to tick everyone’s boxes when it comes to cocktails as its flavours aren’t too overpowering, which can sometimes be the case with more potent recipes. To make a Gin Fizz, you’ll need: 
 
• 50ml of a gin of your choice 
• The desired amount of sparkling water 
• 25ml of lemon juice 
• 2 tsp sugar syrup 
• A slice of lemon (optional) 
 
Grab a cocktail shaker and pour in the gin, lemon juice and sugar syrup. Then, add some ice cubes and shake the concoction vigorously until the shaker feels cold. Finally, strain the mixture into a tall, thin glass and add the desired amount of sparkling water along with some ice and garnish with a lemon slice. 

Tarra-Gin 

While fruit is a popular choice to pair with gin, herbs are also a perfect accompaniment to this fashionable spirit and are great to add to a cocktail for a more savoury flavour. 15 ml of tarragon syrup is the main component in the Tarra-Gin that gives this drink it’s mild but distinctive aniseed edge. The other ingredients you’ll need to make this refreshing cocktail are: 
 
• 50ml of a gin of your choice 
• 25ml lime juice 
• A slice of lime (optional) 
 
First, make the tarragon syrup by heating hot water, sugar and fresh tarragon leaves, stirring the mixture until it has all dissolved to form a syrup. Whatever you do, ensure that you don’t let it boil; instead, when its consistency is right, take it off of the heat and leave it to cool for around seven minutes. Then, strain it off to remove the leaves, leaving the syrup ready to use. Grab yourself a tumbler and pour in the gin, tarragon syrup and lime juice, not forgetting a couple of ice cubes. Finally, give it a quick stir and add a slice of lime to garnish. 

Rhubarb and Ginger Negroni 

Finally, if you’re after the perfect nightcap after a warm summer’s evening, a Rhubarb and Ginger Negroni is a modern spin on a classic cocktail and combines fruity but elegant flavours that will leave you with that lasting taste of summer. To make a Rhubarb and Ginger Negroni, you’ll need: 
 
• 40ml of a gin of your choice 
• 20ml of Martini Rosso 
• 20ml of Campari 
• 1 tsp of rhubarb and ginger jam 
• Orange zest (optional) 
• Candied ginger (optional) 
 
Pour each of the liquid ingredients into a pre-cooled rocks glass. Then, add two or three ice cubes and gently stir the mixture to ensure all the flavours have combined. Finally, slide some orange zest or a piece of candied ginger on to a cocktail stick and pop it on the side of your glass to add a touch of glamour!
